Splott Foraging Walk / Sblot Chwilota Gerdded

Join us for a foraging walk in the beautiful Howardian Nature Reserve.

Foraging for wild food is a great way to add some exciting tastes to your diet. Foraging is all about finding tasty seasonal wild food which can include - herbs, plants, fruit, nuts, mushrooms and even shellfish, while learning more about the natural environment.

On the foraging walk you will have the chance to forage and learn about a range of unusual edible plants. There will be discussion about what’s safe to gather and eat as well as information about the nutritional value and medicinal use of certain plants. We will also look at the conservation of wildlife, what to take and what to leave. At the end of the walk we will try out some wild food dishes and share stories on tasty dishes we have made with wild food. Participants are free to bring something they have made to share with others.

Howardian Reserve is a short drive from Splott with limited car parking. Once people have booked their tickets we will organise transport from Splott through car-sharing and cycling for people with bikes or you can walk there in half an hour. You will need to wear walking shoes or boots and long trousers or leggings and bring small boxes or bags for your foraged foods. If the weather is hot you will need water bottles, hats and sunscreen. If it’s wet you may need to wear wellies and waterproof clothing. We will provide more detailed information nearer the date.

Children  are  welcome  but  must  be  accompanied  by  a  responsible  adult.  Children don't  need  to  be  booked  in  but  we  need  to  know  numbers,  so  please  email  us with  how  many  children  you  are  bringing.  We  are  limiting  tickets  to  two  adults per  household  with  ticket  prices  based  on  the  ‘pay  what  you  can  afford’  principle -  £2,  £5  or  £10.  All proceeds go to our community chest to support the project.  Any issues with paying – please call us on 07707 879 546.
